MIDDLE AMANA, Iowa - A private partnership that includes Waunakee businessman Bill Ranguette plans to build a $35 million convention center and resort complex next to the Amana Colonies golf course, with construction to begin in the spring and completion in the summer of 2005.
The resort to be built on 13 acres by GilRan Group LLC will feature a 164-room hotel and a 25,000-square-foot indoor waterpark.
GilRan partners Ranguette and Paul Gilbertson, of Arkdale, said they are confident the complex will be a destination resort, drawing vacationers and conventioneers from Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Omaha and St. Louis.
GilRan also is part of a group building the $100 million Northern Bay Resort development on the eastern shore of Castle Rock Lake, just north of Wisconsin Dells.
